Drug charges in Lake Charles crack down on crystal meth ring

It seems that elements of the horse racing business have become active players in the importation of lab quality methamphetamine into the state. Officials in Lake Charles and the Louisiana parish of Calcasieu announced that 18 persons were arrested on drug charges as part of a year-and-a-half-long investigation of methamphetamine activities. They were allegedly part of a network of people funneling lab quality crystal meth into the Lake Charles area. In a newsworthy twist, several of the people arrested were jockeys, owners, or trainers in the horse racing industry.

Agents enter home with guns drawn but bring no drug charges

When a bunch of narcotics agents go busting into a house with guns drawn, it's hoped that they know whose house they're barging into and that they really have a need to show such violent force. Lafayette narcotics agents and deputies say that they executed two search warrants looking for synthetic marijuana at a business and a home. In Louisiana, it's not common practice to go into a residence or a business for that matter with guns drawn. In this case, the risk of danger was even higher because no drug charges were even lodged against anyone.

Drug charges accuse man of running drug business from his SUV

There's a popular fictional story about a lawyer who works out of his luxury Lincoln. In real life, police in Louisiana recently arrested a man accused of operating his drug business out of his Cadillac Escalade. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested the 41-year-old male suspect on drug charges and accused him of selling drugs from his SUV.

Arrests for designer drugs include drug charges in Louisiana

You don't often, if ever, see the federal authorities execute a drug sweep on a national basis, hitting drug locations in 35 different states and five countries all in the same day for the same drug enterprise. But DEA officials have done it recently in connection with the so-called largest synthetic drug bust ever. The focus in this raid is on two designer drug categories: synthetic marijuana and bath salts. Authorities, working alongside local enforcement agencies, served more than 150 arrest warrants for drug charges, including 11 in Louisiana.
