Pot plants, grow lights found at West Monroe man’s home

As many people know, Louisiana authorities do not take drug crimes lightly. In order to maintain a “tough on drugs” reputation, they often will not hesitate to go after those they suspect to be in possession of illegal substances. One West Monroe man who now faces drug charges recently found this out after his home was searched by the Ouachita Paris SCAT team.

The 20-year-old man’s rental trailer was searched Wednesday by local police deputies. According to the arrest report, police found drug paraphernalia, including glass pipes, as well as a small marijuana growing operation. Police reported finding pots of marijuana plants, fertilizer and heavy-duty lights. The 20-year-old apparently admitted that he had been growing pot for his own personal use.

The West Monroe man was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He is being held at Ouachita Parish Correctional Center without bail.

Finding yourself in a situation like this man has can be a very frightening experience. Police can often be intimidating and are rarely sympathetic to those they have charged with a crime. It can often seem like there is no way out. However, that is simply not true.

It is important to remember that you still have rights, even if you have been accused of a crime. First, you must remember that you always have the right to remain silent. You do not have to speak to police, and you do not have to admit to anything. Anything you say to them can be used against you in court.
