Louisiana woman accepts sex crimes plea deal in 2 Parishes

On Behalf of Sanchez Burke, LLC

A Louisiana woman has pleaded guilty to felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile for the second time in as many months. The 29-year-old woman was accused of the sex crimes in Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes. By her plea and sentencing, these criminal allegations have been resolved.

The sex crimes charges involved a 13-year-old boy that the woman apparently met in a Bible school camp. Authorities in both parishes asserted that she engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the youth on multiple occasions and in multiple locations. She first pleaded guilty in Beauregard Parish, where she was accused of three counts of second-degree kidnapping in addition to felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. In Calcasieu Parish, she faced eight counts of sexual battery, four counts of felony knowledge of a juvenile and other related sex crimes charges.

In pleading guilty in the Beauregard Parish proceedings, the woman received a sentence of five years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections, although the court suspended four years. In addition, she was sentenced to five years of probation.

In the latest plea arrangement in Calcasieu County, she also received a five-year prison term with four years suspended, to run concurrently with the prior sentence. In Calcasieu Parish, she was also ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 17, no contact with the victim or his family, register as a sex offender and pay all fees and expenses with regard to that program. She is also required to make restitution to the victim’s family for an undisclosed amount.

These sex crimes charges have resulted in serious consequences for the woman. Nevertheless, the result could have been far worse. By addressing the criminal charges pending in both parishes, it appears that she was able to negotiate a plea arrangement that was in her best interests and limited the time she will be required to spend in prison. Others who have found themselves in similar situations may find it helpful to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney who can help you decide what the right option for you is.
