According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, a 34-year-old woman was arrested for engaging in sex with a minor. Officials accuse the woman of being intoxicated during the sexual encounter, which reportedly occurred on Dec. 20.

Purportedly, the minor’s parents reported the incident to authorities. When officers interviewed the juvenile, he stated that the woman approached him sexually and led him to her residence, where she undressed and kissed him, authorities reported. The pair then had intercourse, allegedly.

Officials indicated that the 34-year-old woman denied any knowledge of the incident and stated that she did not remember the juvenile being in her home. The woman, who had reportedly shared a friendship with the juvenile’s mother, was detained and charged by law enforcement officials.

Being charged with a sex offense is a serious legal accusation. As such, it warrants a serious legal response, starting with seeking a criminal defense attorney with the ability, experience and resources to mount a strategic and implacable defense against the sex crime charges. The stakes associated with a conviction require nothing less from accused individuals than maximum commitment to their case.

Otherwise, accused individuals risk a lengthy prison sentence and a lifetime of collateral consequences, including having to register as a sex offender wherever they may live and notifying their neighbors of their status. Those with sex offense convictions often have difficulty with finding employment and housing, and they must oftentimes endure public repudiation and reticence from old friends. This is to say nothing of the damages a conviction may inflict on the offender’s familial relationships.
