Man released after sex crimes conviction is vacated

Far too often, the news surrounding criminal charges is bleak. Here and elsewhere, readers hear about individuals in Louisiana who have been charged with everything from murder and sex crimes to fraud and acts of minor theft. When a story breaks through and shows a different side of law and justice, it is a pleasure to be able to shine a light on a different aspect of our criminal justice system.

40 drug charges arrests follow French Quarter investigation

A significant volume of media attention has been given to the ongoing investigation involving multiple French Quarter strip clubs. As that matter moves forward, Louisiana police have announced the arrest of 40 individuals who are now facing drug charges. While an official statement asserts that the two matters are unrelated, many in the area feel that the negative attention brought by allegations of prostitution and drug sales in those clubs has led police to crack down on other illegal activities in the area.

Business owner accused of white collar crime

The owner of a Slidell company and one other individual were recently arrested on charges of workers' compensation fraud. The two men are accused of a white collar crime and have been booked into Louisiana jails. It is not yet known how each man plans to respond to the allegations and more details could become available in the days and weeks ahead.
