Two Louisiana men are currently in police custody on several charges related to child pornography. The arrests on the alleged sex crimes occurred as part of two separate investigations. One man is 29, and the other is 30 years old.

The younger man was detained on a Friday. He was arrested for pornography involving minors (five counts) and indecent behavior with minors (one count). Police said they were led to the man after completing an investigation into possible online child exploitation.

The other man was taken into custody on a Wednesday. His charges include producing child pornography involving kids under age 13. Police arrested him after executing a warrant on his residence to investigate potential distribution/possession of child pornography. They allegedly found extra evidence of the crimes while forensically examining the digital media seized from his home. The entities involved in the investigations and arrests included sheriff’s offices, police cyber crime units and homeland security investigators.

As with other criminal accusations, those facing charges of sex crimes in Louisiana are presumed innocent of the charges. Each element of the allegations must be proved in court and beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction is possible. The potential consequences of a criminal conviction on these types of charges are severe, including jail time and formal registration as a sex offender. Thus, each man must concentrate on preparing a focused criminal defense for his coming court proceedings, alongside legal counsel. As these cases appear to involve use of the Internet, defense counsel will likely focus preparations on the manner in which law enforcement authorities conducted their investigations and the child pornography content that they claim to have discovered.
