Charges of child pornography were recently filed against two Louisiana men. The sex crime charges include both possessing child pornography and distributing it. The two accused men are 27 and 30 years old.

The 27-year-old man was jailed for possessing porn that involved children under the age of 13. His bond was set at $15,000. Meanwhile, the older man was jailed for distributing pornography involving minors (three counts). He ended up being released on a $22,500 bond.

For the older man, a condition of this man’s bond is that he cannot use a computer device. Several agencies were involved in the police investigations of the two men, including the cyber crime unit of the attorney general as well as Homeland Security. The Louisiana State Police and two parish sheriff’s offices also participated in the investigation.

People facing sex crime charges in Louisiana have the right to demand jury trials on the merits of the allegations. At trial, a defendant essentially forces the prosecution to prove each and every element of the pending charges, which is a burden that can be challenging to meet. In some cases, the defendant may consider it to be in his or her best interest to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecution, if available. A plea agreement may offer the benefit of resulting in reduced charges and a lighter sentence for the accused. A close look at the evidence that prosecutors plan to furnish to support the charges might be a chief area of focus for the criminal defense in such a case.
