Most people are aware of the potential distractions that a driver can face. While many include cell phones or passengers, some people in Louisiana might overlook the fact that potential distractions can also occur outside of a vehicle. For example, one man has recently been arrested after police say his pickup truck crashed into a crowd of people observing a Mardi Gras parade. The driver is suspected of drunk driving.

The accident reportedly happened one evening in late February. Reports indicate that a pickup truck struck two vehicles on the street. A witness claims that it appears that the driver lost control, causing the truck to enter a crowd of people watching the parade.

Reports indicate that 28 people were injured. None of the injuries suffered were life-threatening, and at least seven of the people included in the injury count declined medical treatment. Police say that the man’s blood alcohol content, as reportedly determined by a Breathalyzer, was significantly over the legal limit. While he is currently charged with vehicular negligence resulting in injury, hit-and-run driving and reckless operation, police say that more charges could be filed.

Bail for the 25-year-old man who was allegedly driving the truck has been set at $125,000. If he posts it, he will be subjected to house arrest with an ankle monitor. Because of the seriousness of the accusations against the man, he is likely relying upon the help of a defense attorney experienced with drunk driving allegations in Louisiana to guide him through the process. Such a professional can help the man fully understand the charges against him as well as the potential outcomes of each of his options as he decides on his criminal defense.
