2 friends arrested for drunk driving in Louisiana

Many people in Louisiana have very close friendships and know of the sacrifices that friends are often willing to make for each other. In some circumstances, friends will do anything they can to help another out, even if it comes at a huge inconvenience to themselves. Unfortunately, police in Louisiana claim that two people were arrested for drunk driving after a woman allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol to bail out someone arrested earlier.

The arrests reportedly occurred on a day in early July. Police claim that they pulled over "a car full of drunks." The driver of the car was arrested while his passengers reportedly took a cab from the scene, leaving the car. However, police say that one of the passengers returned for the car.

That same person allegedly drove to the police station to bail out the friend who had been arrested earlier. Police say that they then arrested her, and they now both, apparently, face criminal charges. It is unclear at this time how police determined that the two people were under the influence of alcohol or what their blood alcohol content was at the time of their arrests.

Fortunately for people facing drunk driving charges in Louisiana, a police officer's belief or accusation that a driver is intoxicated is often insufficient to gain a conviction. In order for there to be a conviction, there must be evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt -- a standard that is often difficult to meet. An attorney with experience with such cases can help defendants fully understand the charges and evidence against them, helping them to make informed decisions regarding the direction their case will follow.
