When a investigation over the course of a number of months leads to an arrest, those being charged with a crime may be confused and unsure of what to do. When an arrest leads to drug charges in Louisiana, the person may also be scared. The officer making the arrest is doing his or her job. Once a person is charged, he or she may benefit from legal counsel.

Such may be the case after the arrest of nine young men purported to be part of a network known as the D-Block. The group is suspected of running a drug distribution organization. The indictments that were handed down alleged racketeering and drug distribution against the men arrested. The drugs the men were accused of dealing included heroin, cocaine, marijuana, prescription pills and methamphetamine. According to the report, some of the men were also accused of illegally possessing weapons.

The indictments were the result of an investigation that appears to date back to July 2017. The investigation was led by the New Orleans Police Department and members of the Drug Enforcement Agency as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The investigation is part of the NOPD’s commitment to reducing drug crime in the area.

Anyone in a position similar to the one that these nine young men are in is entitled to defend him or herself. An experienced criminal defense attorney in Louisiana is well-positioned to advise on the best avenue to pursue in such a case. After a thorough review of any drug charges, a knowledgeable attorney can help to ensure that the rights of the accused are fully respected while fighting to achieve the best possible result for the client.
