Before a drug arrest is made in Louisiana, there may be a lot of work done behind the scenes before the arrest is carried out. This may include gathering evidence and conducting lengthy observation of any alleged illegal activity. When police officers believe they have sufficient evidence, drug charges may then be brought against a suspect or suspects. Being charged with a crime can be very scary and intimidating. Anyone so charged is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

In a recent case, two men were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of intent to distribute cocaine and heroin. They were also charged with one count each of illegal firearms possession. One gentleman is from Ponchatoula and the other is from Hammond.

The U.S. attorney in charge of the case stressed that these charges are allegations only and must be proven in a court of law. To be found guilty, a jury must find the defendants guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Being in such a position can present a very stressful situation to the individual or individuals being charged.

A person or persons in Louisiana confronting a similar situation may benefit from seeking the counsel of an experienced criminal defense attorney. A lawyer can bring a calming influence to a very tense and scary situation for the defendant. A knowledgeable attorney can review the circumstances leading to the drug charges and inform his or her client on the best legal path to pursue. An experienced lawyer will do his or her utmost to obtain the best legal outcome for his or her client.
