Driving under the influence of alcohol remains a serious problem in Louisiana and across the country. Anyone, anywhere, anytime can fall victim to the consequences of drunk driving. Such was the situation on Johnson Street in Lafayette Parish on a recent Friday night.

Three people were in a car around midnight on Johnson Street when they were struck by another vehicle. The driver of the car that hit them was identified only as a 26-year-old woman. According to the police report, she was intoxicated at the time of the crash and will face charges for driving under the influence.

The three people in the car that was struck were transported to the hospital. One gentleman died from his injuries. The conditions of the other victims are not known. The cause and circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.

The sudden death of a family or loved one in Louisiana is never easy to bear. When it occurs due to drunk driving, the grief and shock may be accompanied by anger and a desire to see justice done. No one can bring back the deceased love one, but as feelings of anguish and grief subside, the family and loved ones may wish to search for answers. A conversation with an experienced personal injury attorney may be helpful as a knowledgeable attorney can review the circumstances of the accident and help to determine if a civil suit against the party deemed responsible is a possible option. A successfully litigated claim can assist with medical expenses, final costs and other verifiable losses.
