Teenagers, drugs and criminal defense

Teenagers under the influence of illegal drugs in Louisiana can exhibit strange behavior and may not be fully aware of their actions. This is no excuse for inappropriate or illegal behavior, nor should it deny a person's right to a criminal defense. Regardless of the circumstances of an arrest, an accused individual is still presumed innocent until -- and only if -- found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

A young man was recently accused of hitting a pregnant woman with his car in a parking garage in Baton Rouge. The woman was said to have been pinned between two cars by the impact. According to the police report she suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg and a facial fracture. She and her unborn child are reportedly in stable condition in an area hospital.

Following the accident, the young man driving the car is reported to have stripped off his clothes and fled from the scene. The suspect was apprehended a short time later. He was charged with a DWI, reckless driving and negligent injuring.

A young person in Louisiana who finds him or herself under arrest for drug-related behavior may be under a lot of stress. This stress may be amplified by possibly not being able to fully recall recent events. A person in such a situation may be able to benefit by seeking the counsel of an experienced criminal defense attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can review the police report and review possible legal options with his or her client.
