Drug charges need not leave a person feeling helpless

A new year has arrived but sadly many issues from the old year did not end with it. The drug problem in Louisiana continues to be a major problem. Police from Ouachita Parish are in search of a suspect who is wanted on drug charges as a result of a recent search.

A warrant was recently executed to allow a search of the suspect's home. The suspect reportedly fled as the officers executed the warrant. The officers executed a search of the home located on Foster Street in Monroe. During the search, a young woman was found in the house with her 1-year-old child.

The officers executing the search reportedly found 138 pounds of marijuana that they claimed had an approximate street value of $1.3 million. In addition to drugs, 14 weapons were found. These included AR-15s, handguns, shotguns and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition. The officers charged the woman they found at the property with illegal possession of a weapon, possession of drugs with intent to distribute and child endangerment. The other suspect has not been apprehended.

Facing drug charges in Louisiana can feel like one's world is caving in. It is important to remember that anyone accused of a crime is innocent until and unless proven guilty in a criminal courtroom. That is a right that is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. While facing such charges can be overwhelming and daunting, the accused needn't face the charges alone. A defense attorney can explain one's rights under the law and work to ensure that those rights are upheld throughout the judicial process.
