One’s teen years are supposed to be a time of adventure, risk-taking and self-discovery. Too often that can lead a young person down the wrong path. When that path runs afoul of the law, it can leave a young person facing the reality of needing a criminal defense in Louisiana.
According to police reports, three young men, ages 16, 15 and 14, were arrested and charged with armed robbery. The three are being held in the Juvenile Justice Center. They face additional charges of aggravated battery and fleeing from an officer, according to a spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department.
The three boys allegedly got out of a parked car on a local street and approached a man on the street. According to a police report, two of the boys had guns and demanded the man hand over his valuables. They then allegedly forced the man down to the pavement and took items from his pockets before running away.
A young person in Louisiana confronted with the reality of criminal prosecution is bound to be terrified and perhaps feel that one’s life is over. Getting into trouble with the law as a young person does not have to mean that one’s world is coming to an end. Young people are still presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Juvenile courts may provide additional means to prevent a youthful indiscretion from having a permanent impact on one’s life in Louisiana. An experienced criminal defense attorney can ensure that one’s rights are protected throughout the juvenile justice process.
