The Big Easy, one-way streets and criminal defense

New Orleans' nickname, the Big Easy, stems from its reputation as a fun city where the good times roll. Bourbon Street is the focal point for the good times in the city. On occasion, trouble breaks out that can cause the police to have to intervene to ensure revelers safety. Such was the case on a recent Saturday night when police tried to stop a man who was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. The person responsible might benefit from a little Louisiana criminal defense assistance.

A man was driving the wrong way on Bourbon Street and reportedly failed to stop for Louisiana State Police. The officer fired at the driver in an attempt to stop him and prevent him from injuring pedestrians in the crowded area. The driver was not seriously injured and was arrested following treatment for the gunshot wound.

He faces charges of resisting an officer, fleeing from an officer, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He was not charged with intent to injure pedestrians. It is not known if he was drunk or under the influence of another substance at the time of his arrest.

Anyone accused of a crime in Louisiana, like anywhere else in the country, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. If one is navigating unfamiliar streets, one-way streets can be confusing, and noise can be distracting. A person facing charges may wish to consult with a criminal defense attorney who can review the circumstances of the situation and also help a client to understand his or her rights and available legal options.
