Drug Charges Archives

2 face drug charges following police investigation

Several people were recently arrested in Louisiana after being accused of committing drug crimes. When individuals face drug charges, they are presumed innocent unless their guilt is proved in a criminal court. Prosecutors have to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt before these individuals can be convicted.

40 drug charges arrests follow French Quarter investigation

A significant volume of media attention has been given to the ongoing investigation involving multiple French Quarter strip clubs. As that matter moves forward, Louisiana police have announced the arrest of 40 individuals who are now facing drug charges. While an official statement asserts that the two matters are unrelated, many in the area feel that the negative attention brought by allegations of prostitution and drug sales in those clubs has led police to crack down on other illegal activities in the area.

Roadside stop leads to serious drug charges

Louisiana police have arrested a man and charged him with several crimes in connection with a roadside stop. While driving near I-49, deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office noticed a tractor trailer and a pickup truck parked illegally on the side of the Interstate on-ramp. While speaking to the drivers of those vehicles, the deputies felt that the men were acting as though they were nervous. They determined that the driver of the pickup was on probation, and called in probation agents to search the man's vehicle, which ultimately led to serious drug charges.

Widespread raids lead to numerous drug charges

The sale and manufacture of illegal drugs is a serious social problem, and one that Louisiana courts and law enforcement take very seriously. That said, when large-scale drug raids are conducted, there are inevitably mistakes that will be made. Often, innocent people are swept up during these crime sweeps and enter into the frightening and frustrating legal process. Such may be the case for some of the nearly 300 individuals who either have been or are expected to be arrested on drug charges in a recent law enforcement action.
